Severin von Eckardstein (piano) and Isang Enders (cello) - Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev

Cellosonate nr. 2 in D, op. 58
Severin von Eckardstein (piano) Isang Enders (cello)
  • I. Allegro assai vivace
  • II. Allegretto scherzando
  • III. Adagio
  • IV. Molto Allegro e vivace
Does the second part of this cello sonata look familiar to you? That could be right. While Mendelssohn was composing his Second Cello Sonata, he also worked on the stage music for A Midsummer Night's Dream. Much of the fairy-like fairytale music can be heard in the 'Allegretto scherzando' of the Second Cello Sonata.
Cellosonate in C, op. 119
Severin von Eckardstein (piano) Isang Enders (cello)
  • I. Andante grave
  • II. Moderato
  • III. Allegro, ma non troppo
"A wonderful piece of music", the Russian composer Nikolay Mayaskovsky called Prokofiev's Cello Sonata. Mjaskovsky personally experienced the world premiere in 1950, when he was played by two legendary Russian musicians: cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and pianist Sviatoslav Richter
PAUZE
Uit: Märchen, op. 34
Severin von Eckardstein (piano)
  • III. Allegretto tenebroso
  • IV. Molto sostenuto e semplice
The music of Nikolaj Medtner gives Severin von Eckardstein a special feeling. "His music unleashes something in you that stays with you afterwards. I know a lot of people who share that feeling. There are also many secrets hidden in Medtner's music. Every time you hear it, you discover more."
Suya Dalmak (voor cello en tape)
Isang Enders (cello)
The piece Suya Dalmak was written by composer Charlotte Bray at the special request of Isang Enders. This composition is part of a series of pieces about the elements. Suya Dalmak is about the element water and you can hear that in all sorts of ways in the music.
Cellosonate nr. 3 in A, op. 69
Severin von Eckardstein (piano) Isang Enders (cello)
  • I. Allegro, ma non tanto
  • II. Scherzo. Allegro molto
  • III. Adagio cantabile - Allegro vivace
Beethoven could call you the inventor of the classic cello sonata. He wrote five of them, of which each sonata has a different purpose. In his Third Cello Sonata Beethoven replaced the slow middle movement with a manic 'Scherzo'. This makes this cello sonata the only one without a really slow part, which makes the piece sound even more exciting

Artist in residence Severin von Eckardstein experiences every concert as an adventurous journey. "I want to take people through breathtaking musical landscapes and bring out perhaps forgotten experiences," says the master pianist. Bring back such a forgotten memory with the cello sonatas by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Prokofiev, or the fairytale 'Märchenbilder' by Severin's musical hero Nikolaj Medtner. Severin von Eckardstein and cellist Isang Enders will give you a special adventurous journey at the beginning of the new season.
