Adam Laloum - Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann - World Pianists

Pianosonate nr. 28 in A, op. 101
Adam Laloum (piano)
Little in this piano sonata is reminiscent of the heavenly Beethoven of, for example, his Fifth Symphony. The music is intimate and even dreamy. Only the lively march in the second part sounds like the characteristic Beethoven. Beethoven himself was also aware of the subtle character of his sonata and called the piece "a series of impressions and dreams".
Humoresque, op. 20
Adam Laloum (piano)
  • I. Einfach -
  • II. Hastig -
  • III. Einfach und zart -
  • IV. Innig -
  • V. Sehr lebhaft -
  • VI. Mit einigem Pomp -
  • VII. Zum Beschluss
Contrary to what the title might suggest, Schumann's Humoreske has little to do with humour. Although the music generally sounds light-footed, Schumann breaks through the musical atmosphere with melancholic passages. It is precisely this variegation of moods that makes Humoreske so special.
PAUZE
Pianosonate nr. 20 in A, D. 959
Adam Laloum (piano)
  • I. Allegro
  • II. Andantino
  • III. Scherzo. Allegro vivace
  • IV. Rondo. Allegretto
In a final whim of creativity Schubert composed three great piano sonatas a few months before his death. This Piano Sonata in A is the second of the three. The 'Andante' is the most striking movement in this sonata. Note the dramatic contrast between the melancholic melody with which the movement opens and the furious middle section. As if Schubert is protesting his inevitable end of life.

Dreamy, sensitive and full of fantasy. It's just a few impressions that come to mind when you listen to Adam Laloum's brilliant game. This winner of the Clara Haskil Competition (2009) is a master in creating musical atmosphere. Laloum feels at home in Schubert's intimate piano sonatas and the characterful pieces by Beethoven and Schumann. It is music full of love and fantasy, but also sometimes fear and passionate desire. "Laloum touches the core and lets us dream with him," writes Opus-Classical
