Hannes Lover

What drives master pianist Hannes Lover? "I have great ideals and I want to grab the listener by the throat, so to speak. It's nice when you feel a certain atmosphere emerge, when the music rises above you." Hannes Lover does not enchant his audience with lightning virtuosity, but rather by giving priority to emotion in the music. Reviewers often describe Lovers piano playing as subdued and intense. The Guardian goes even one step further: "Hannes Lover has a maturity and purity in his playing that places him firmly in the tradition of Alfred Brendel"

Day and night

The words Subdued and intense also apply to the music Hannes Lover plays in the Edesche Concert Hall. With pieces by Beethoven, Schumann, Janácek and Ravel, Hannes Lover takes you past the highest peaks and deepest valleys of human existence. Thanks to the sonorous opening chords Beethoven's contemporaries gave the sonata the nickname 'Dageraad' (Dawn). Schumann takes you into the depths with his Nachtstücke. Schumann composed the work around the death of his older brother Eduard. A period in which Schumann said he had an obsession with death.

Janácek and Ravel

Janácek is also a master in creating atmosphere in short penetrating character pieces. In Op een overgrown pad Janácek processed his grief over the death of his daughter Olga. This resulted in impressive pieces with titles such as 'In tears' and 'The Barn Owl has not yet flown away'. Like Beethoven, Ravel wanted to write one of the most difficult piano pieces of his time. That was Gaspard de la nuit. As a starting point Ravel took three poems by poet Aloysius Bertrand about a water nymph, a gallows and the ghostly tease Scarbo.

"Only when I really have something to say, I play it," master pianist Hannes Lover told NRC Handelsblad. At the Bösendorfer Imperial Hannes has enough to tell you, because with four breathtaking pieces he takes you along the highest peaks and deepest valleys of human existence. With Beethoven's energetic Waldsteinsonate, Hannes puts you directly in full sunlight. Contemporaries nicknamed this sonata 'Dawn'. The night takes place in Schumann's Nachtstücke. And with Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit, Hannes conjures up a dark fairytale world of water nymphs, a gallows and the tease Scarbo
